Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then found numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations indicate the liquid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; officials are currently not informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for information.
An important political figure said the vandalism left him speechless and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
